AND March through the streets of Brisbane
On the weekend before the first sittings of Parliament and the 11th Anniversary of the ban, all out for Marriage Equality!
After the historic Marriage Equality victory in Ireland AND THE SUPREME COURT SMACKDOWN OF EVERY MARRIAGE EQUALITY BAN LEFT IN THE U.S. and with Bills in front of Parliament to change the Marriage Act, it's time to come out onto the streets to remind our so called representatives where the community stands on Equal Rights!
For years now the majority of people in Australia have supported marriage equality, but now both Labor and Liberal have been given a good kick up the butts by the people powered victory in Ireland and commentators are saying 2015 is the year we achieve marriage equality, but if all the years of campaigning have taught us anything it's that there are no guarantees when it comes to the major parties and we have to keep the pressure up.
The fight for Marriage Equality is also about the fight for all the rights of the LGBTIQ community. Following the victory in Ireland which thoroughly defeated the homophobic 'no' vote, the government has moved to pass historic trans rights legislation.
Safe schools, access to healthcare, discrimination at work, mental health are all major issues affecting the LGBTI community and a hard won victory for marriage equality should tell the government that all aspects of inequality and discrimination have to go!
So join Equal Love, bring your friends, family, school mates, work mates and lets make this big!!!
